Disease Prevention

Cancer and other degenerative diseases prevention.
Cancer is one of the top 3 killers in our society right now. Whether you or someone you know is fighting cancer (or if you are interested in preventing cancer), then you may want to read on. I have listed a few basic things that you can do, that have been taught by some of the best holistic doctors who fight cancer around the world. These will be helpful even if you are going through surgery, chemotherapy or radiation, and will help you heal more quickly.
- Eat and Heal. Start by eating mostly plant-based foods. Limit meats (especially those that are not organic and contain hormones and antibiotics), fatty and sugary foods (cancer feeds on sugar) and other empty calorie snacks. Increase your intake of fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. These foods that are loaded with antioxidants, will fight the free radicals that create cancer. The seven super sources are cruciferious vegetables, onions and garlic, citrus fruits, berries, green leafies, tomatoes and herbs and spices. Green tea and olive oil and carrots also have bonus nutrients that fight cancer. Also stay away from artificial sweeteners. These are toxins that your body does not need!
- Exercise and manage your weight. Those people who are overweight or considered “obese” have a higher risk of cancer of the breast, uterus, ovary and gallbladder for women and colon and prostate for men. Just getting out for a 30 minute walk every day will give you exercise and lower stress levels.
- Drink lots of water. Whether you are cancer free or fighting cancer, you have some toxins moving through your body and creating free radicals waiting to cause disease. Drinking plenty of water will help flush out what your body doesn’t need and keep your organs healthy and lubricated. It is recommended you drink somewhere between half of your body weight in ounces, up to one gallon per day. Be sure to drink filtered water without the chlorine and use a container without plastic chemicals seaping into the water, preferably glass.
- Breathe deep. According to Dr. Leonard Coldwell, with a 93% cancer cure rate, cancer cells are normal healthy cells that have mutated genetically so that they can live in an environment where oxygen is not available. Cancer cells cannot grow or exist in an oxygen rich environment or an alkaline environment as proved by Nobel Prize wimmer Max Plank.
- Consider cleansing. – up to 4 times per year. I have written about a few ideas in past newsletters, that you can find on the website, and there are several cleanses out on the market. Be sure it comes from a good source.
- MOST IMPORTANTLY, Manage stress. Dr. Coldwell states that there are many natural ways that cancer tumors have been eliminated which include: Vitamin B17, 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide, Vitamin C or Aloe Vera injections, Essiac tea or capsules, turmeric, various mushrooms, oxygen or ozone therapy, Vitamin D or sunlight, raw food or macrobiotic diets, full body and organ cleanses, graviola fruit, chelation therapy, selenium and several other food sources or therapies. But he has found that many illness are stress related. Doing everything in your power to help reduce stress is probably the most important task you can tackle when battling cancer. It is impossible to list all the techniques that are out there to help with your stress, in this newsletter. You need to use your common sense on what you know works for you. If you would like some suggestions on some of the most beneficial things you can do, you can contact me and I would be happy to share them with you. The main thing you need to remember is that we all have stressors in our life and throughout our day; it is how we respond or react to them and how we let it affect us, that is important.
Remember, you have the power to live a cancer-free life. The power of prevention is all yours! Make the right decisions and you will be on the best path to sustainable health.
Just ask yourself one question – Are you willing to do what it takes to get well?, or stay healthy?

Herbal Remedies for Lyme Disease

  • Weakened immunity is usually the reason behind chronic Lyme disease. Hence, remedies are generally focused on the pain relieving part, and specifically on immunity enhancement.
Lyme disease is generally treated with antibiotics. If this disease is diagnosed in its early stages, it responds very well to treatment (14-30 days). To relieve joint pain and stiffness, anti-inflammatory medication may be prescribed. However, if left untreated Lyme disease may spread to the joints, heart or nervous system.

Natural and alternative treatments have had great success in reducing the symptoms of Lyme disease. Treatments such as herbal remedies are safe and effective to use without the harsh side effects of prescription drugs. Two well known African herbs such as Hypoxis Rooperi (extract of African Potato) and Agathosma Betulina (also known as buchu) supports the immune system, act as a natural convalescent, supportive tonic and diuretic.

Other herbal ingredients such as Mentha Piperita, Solidago Virgaurea (also known as Goldenrod) and Viscum Album promote the body’s natural flow of bile, helps to fight infection, and support healthy circulation.
    • Hypoxis rooperi (extract of African Potato) is traditionally used as a natural supportive tonic. Hypoxis contains phytosterols and sterolins, which help to support the immune system. Research has shown the beneficial effect of plant sterols and sterolins on the immune system. Research done on a group of volunteers demonstrated positive effects on the number of T-cells, which are involved in enhancing immunity.
    • Boswellia serrata is an extract of resin from a tall tree found in India. Boswellia has been used for thousands of years in traditional Ayurvedic (Indian) medicine. Modern science has verified its excellent benefits for joint health. With regular use, blood supply to the joints is also maintained, keeping soft tissue nourished and viable. Recent research into Boswellia is at the forefront of developments in the field of natural joint health and studies suggest that this natural substance can help to support the health and integrity of cartilage in the joints.
    • Agathosma betulina (buchu) has been used by the natives of the Western Cape of South Africa for many centuries. The leaves of buchu contain 1.0 – 3.5% volatile oils as well as flavonoids - compounds found in fruits and vegetables that have diverse beneficial biochemical and antioxidant effects. Buchu supports the body’s natural ability to rid itself of toxins by maintaining routine secretion of retained water. Research suggests that the natural action of buchu is due to the volatile oils, of which the primary component is monoterpene disophenol.
    • Harpagophytum procumbens ('Sengaparile,' 'Devil's Claw' or 'Duiwelsklou') is known for the claw-like shape of its fruit. For thousands of years, the Khoisan people of the Kalahari Desert (in Southern Africa) have used Devil's Claw to support healthy joints as well as for a digestive tonic. Clinical  studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of Devil's Claw in supporting joint health. In a study by Brady et al, (1981), serum cholesterol and uric acid levels were shown to be reduced after treatment with Devil's Claw. Scientific studies have also indicated that it is also an effective immune system tonic.
    • Schizandra sinesis is a powerful ingredient which originated in China. Schizandra is also used to assist the body in its capacity to maintain healthy energy levels, and as a general systemic tonic to support feelings of health, vitality and well-being. Schizandra is also respected for its effect on liver health and studies show that this herb can help to support healthy cardiovascular, liver, and kidney functions.
    • Propolis is well-known for its effects of this bee product on immune system health.
    • Glucosamine is naturally manufactured in the body and scientists know that this simple substance is found in relatively high concentrations in the joints and connective tissues, where its function is to repair cartilage and maintain joint mobility. Although we know that the body can manufacture small amounts of glucosamine, this is not generally sufficient to sustain joint health, which makes supplementation very important. As a supplement,Glucosamine sulphate is derived from the shells of shellfish, crabs and oysters where it is found in high concentrations. Glucosamine is approved for the support of joint health in more than 70 countries around the world and has been the subject of many clinical studies which attest to its benefits. Because glucosamine is naturally occurring in the body it is generally very safe and well tolerated without side effects

Some experts believe that dietary and supplemental forms of omega-3 fatty acids, including alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) found in walnuts and flaxseeds, may prove helpful as part of your treatment for Lyme. Gamma-linolenic acid is found in evening primrose oil, black currant seed oil, and borage oil; alpha-linolenic acid is found in flaxseed oil and other oils. Try and eat foods rich an omega-3 fatty acids (such as cold-water fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts). Eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids and limiting foods with omega-6 fatty acids (found, for example, in egg yolks, meats, and cooking oils including corn, safflower, and cottonseed,) is generally known as a good practice.
  • Eat antioxidant foods, including fruits (such as blueberries, cherries, and tomatoes), and vegetables (such as squash and bell peppers).
  • Eat foods high in B-vitamins and calcium, such as almonds, beans, whole grains (if no allergy), dark leafy greens (such as spinach and kale), and sea vegetables.
  • Reduce or eliminate trans-fatty acids, found in commercially baked goods such as cookies, crackers, cakes, French fries, onion rings, donuts, processed foods, and margarine.
  • Probiotic supplement (containing Lactobacillus acidophilus), 5 - 10 billion CFUs (colony forming units) a day, for maintenance of gastrointestinal and immune health. You should refrigerate your probiotic supplements for best results. Eat two or three small tubs of bio-yoghurt.
  • Grapefruit seed extract (Citrus paradisi), 100 mg capsule or 5 - 10 drops (in favorite beverage) three times daily, for antibacterial or antifungal activity and immunity.
  • Vitamin C, 500 - 1000 mg one to three times daily, as an antioxidant, and for immune support. Increase intake of vitamin C source rich seed oils, avocados, oily fish must be increased. Most of these foods also contain omega-3 fatty acids known to dilate blood vessels thus reduces the chances of you getting spasms.
  • Coenzyme Q10, 100 - 200 mg at bedtime, for antioxidant, immune, and muscular support. CoQ10 is found primarily in fish and meat. Other sources of this useful compound include soya beans, potatoes, spinach and offal.
  • Alpha-lipoic acid, 25 - 50 mg twice daily, for antioxidant support.

Simple Steps to Ease Symptoms of Lyme Disease

3 areas where you can help yourself while healing from Lyme Disease:

1.Diet. Eat only healthy, whole organic foods whenever possible. Choose more fresh veggies, more alkaline foods. Read all packaged food and drink labels before you buy. I know that the mere mention of spaghetti and garlic bread makes you salivate, however, reduce (or eliminate) your intake of pasta and carbohydrates. They break down into sugar in your system. Sugar will feed the Lyme bacteria you're trying so hard to kill. Drink plenty of pure water, it will help you detoxify and stay alert. Drink green tea instead of coffee - you have no tolerance for coffee now anyway.

2.Exersice. Yeah, I know.  You can barely drag yourself out of bed. However, the top Lyme experts recommend daily exercise...to help increase your energy level. That's right! Run, dance, ride a bike. Walk. Jump on your mini-trampoline. Most Lyme patients feel about as strong as melted butter. Build muscles. You'll gain strength, and being strong will also build your confidence. Unless you're in an acute stage, start sweating. Every Lyme patient tells me that regular exercise makes them feel better, even when they felt so wobbly they could barely manage to drag themselves around the block.

3. Sleep. While you're deeply snoozing, each one of your cells is being repaired and replaced with a new healthy cell. You need more rest than you think. Who cares if you need 10, 11, 12 hours of sleep? It takes what it takes. Go to bed by 10 pm. If you can't sleep, meditate. Meditate anyway. It helps you gain perspective. Then first thing upon awakening, take a shower (dry brush first, to help slough off icky toxins excreted during the night). Brew a cup of hot green jasmine tea. Sip while sitting in the morning sun. Stretch. Yawn. Pet your cat. Hug your significant other. Breathe deeply. Give thanks.

Enzymes for Dissolving Biofilms, Lyme Disease

How Enzymes for Dissolving Biofilms Can Increase Pain and Herbs That Can Relieve It

For people with recurring Lyme disease pains due to breaking up biofilms
By Greg Lee
Pandora's jar
Remember the Greek myth of Pandora? Pandora was given a jar, which was changed from a jar into a box in a later version, and told to never open it. Her curiosity got the best of her and she opened and released the evils inside the jar. The evils were then able to spread across the earth causing trouble, pain, and destruction. The only thing left in the jar was hope, which she was able to release by opening the jar a second time.
How is the myth of Pandora similar to using enzymes to dissolve Lyme disease biofilms?
Similar to opening Pandora’s jar, taking enzyme supplements for breaking up biofilms can release hidden pains
At a recent seminar, medical practitioners were shown how earthworm enzymes are able to break up slimy biofilms and uncover hidden Lyme disease bacteria. A biofilm is a protective slime that bacteria and other germs encase themselves in to avoid being killed. These special enzymes dissolve protective biofilms and enable medications, herbs, and the immune system to more effectively kill hidden germs. Not only do these enzymes cut through biofilms, but they release the germs hidden within.
When biofilms are dissolved, they release hidden germs and painful toxins
After taking these enzymes, patients have reported feeling more toxic. This toxic feeling has been compared to a Herxheimer reaction. A Herxheimer reaction is described as a release of toxins that occurs when bacteria are killed. As these enzymes dissolve protective biofilms, the underlying germs get killed off by medications, herbs, treatments, or the immune system, which releases more toxins. This increase in toxins can lead to greater pain, fatigue, and mental confusion. Not only do these enzymes dissolve biofilms, they also dissolve coagulated blood deposits.
These enzymes also dissolve coagulated deposits that block oxygen flow into tissues
When a person has a trauma that breaks blood vessels, the circulation system produces a substance called fibrin to stop the bleeding. Fibrin plugs the damage in blood vessels and helps to form a blood clot. Excess fibrin circulates in the blood stream and ends up being deposited on the inside of your blood vessels. These deposits are like a plaque that can slow down or prevent oxygen and nutrients from getting into your tissues.  These fibrin deposits are also referred to as coagulated blood. When enzymes dissolve these coagulated blood deposits, then your cells benefit from more oxygen and nutrients. However, there is also a downside to dissolving coagulated blood.
Dissolving coagulated blood deposits can cause bruising and bring up painful emotions
At elevated doses, some people report bruising when taking these enzymes. Chinese herbal medicine describes how emotions, thoughts, and memories can be stored in coagulated blood deposits. Another side effect of taking these enzymes is that some people have reported feeling bouts of anxiety, experiencing painful memories, or being troubled by deeply negative thoughts. These uncomfortable experiences have recurred for weeks or months in a few people. How can Chinese medicine help people with these uncomfortable thoughts and emotions?
Fortunately, there are herbs that can help to relieve painful emotions
In Chinese herbal medicine, there is a group of herbs classified as “calm the spirit.” These herbs help to heal the source of painful emotions and troubling thoughts.
Herb #1) Oyster shell, Chinese name: Mu Li1
The properties of this herb are salty, cool, and and astringent. Crushed or powdered, oyster shell is used to treat dizziness, vertigo, palpitations, insomnia, irritability, short temper, restlessness, and tinnitus. It is also used to treat convulsions, muscle twitches, lumps, and palpable masses like scrophula and goiter. It is also highly effective for stopping sweating, uterine bleeding, and vaginal discharge. Oyster shell is alkaline which is used to treat stomach acidity, reflux, heartburn, ulcers, and stomach pain. Oyster shell is also used to settle and calm the spirit.
There are no documented herb drug interactions at the time of publication. This herb is contraindicated in people with shellfish allergies.
2) Radix Polygalae, Chinese name: Yuan Zhi2
The properties of this herb are acrid, bitter, slightly warm. Polygala is used to pacify the heart and calm the spirit. It strengthens the heart and is used to treat restlessness, palpitations, palpitations with anxiety, insomnia, excessive dreaming, and nocturnal emissions. Polygala also treats mental and emotional disorientation, forgetfulness, memory loss, the inability to concentrate, seizures, delirium, mania, stupor, and hearing loss. This herb also expels phlegm, and treats coughing with white sputum, bronchitis, pneumonia, and respiratory disorders. It is also used for boils, abscesses, sores, swollen or painful breasts.
This herb is to be used with caution in patients with gastritis, peptic or duodenal ulcers. It is also to be used with caution in pregnancy as it can cause uterine contractions. Water and alcohol extracts of this herb have an inhibitory effect on diplococcus pneumoniae (pneumonia), bacillus dysenteriae (dysentery), Salmonella typhi, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis hominis (tuberculosis). In one study, this herb reduced the impairment on learning and memory caused by ethanol. Polygala has a diuretic effect and concurrent use with diuretics like chlorothiazide, hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide (Lasix), bumetanide (Burmex), and torsemide (Demadex) may lead to increased elimination of water and/or electrolytes.
3) Reishi mushroom / Ganoderma, Chinese name: Ling Zhi3
The properties of this herb are sweet and neutral. Reishi mushroom nourishes the heart and calms the spirit. strengthens the heart and spleen, and stops coughing and wheezing. This herb treats insomnia, forgetfulness, fatigue, listlessness, diabetes, and poor appetite. It also treats coughing caused by cold, profuse sputum, rapid breathing, and chronic asthma. Reishi also replenishes energy and blood. It is helpful with weak digestion, loose stools, fatigue, dizziness, and low back soreness.
This herb has been shown to enhance the immune system by increasing monocytes, macrophages, and T-lymphocytes. It also increases the production of Interleukin-12 (IL-12). In different Lyme disease studies, IL-12 increased arthritis in one mouse study and decreased arthritis in another mammal study. It contains ganoderic acid which help fight auto-immune diseases, inhibit histamine release, improve oxygen utilization, improve liver functions, are potent antioxidant free-radical scavengers, and supports neurological healing.
Reishi has a broad spectrum of antibiotic activity. It inhibits the growth of E. coli, B. dysentery, Pseudonomas spp. pneumococci, streptococci type A, and staphylococci. There are no documented herb drug interactions at the time of publication.
Combining one or more of these herbs can help reduce or eliminate painful emotions that come up when biofilms get dissolved.
The right herbs can help relieve the pains uncovered by enzymes used for dissolving biofilms
Just like opening Pandora’s Jar, enzymes for dissolving biofilms can lead to increased pain for people with Lyme disease. Not only can these enzymes release toxins under biofilms, they can also bring up painful emotions that are hidden in coagulated blood deposits. Just like Pandora opening her jar a second time to let hope out, there are calm spirit herbs that can help to relieve painful emotions. Consult with a Lyme literate herbalist to help reduce or eliminate the pains released when dissolving biofilms. The right combination of herbs can help soothe troubled emotions and neutralize painful toxins.
